Becoming a travel aficionado is 70 percent on-the-road experience, 20 percent coaching and mentoring (i.e. your trusted partner telling you to nix the seventh pair of shoes) and 10 percent reading articles like this one! Since you can’t take every single beauty product you own with you, these six beauty tips will come in handy whether you’re going out of town for the weekend or about to embark on a two-week trip to Europe.

1. Get clean quick and calmly.

Face wipes are so convenient when you’re having a late night. I like to take face wipes with me on trips because they’re less likely to spill and cause damage compared to bottled products. I alternate between two different kinds – Pond’s Evening Soothe Wet Cleansing Towelettes with Chamomile & White Tea and Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes.

2. Look alive, pack white eyeliner.

Use white eyeliner on your inner lash line to make your eyes appear bigger and ultimately make you look more awake, an essential for the jet setter.  Oh look, it’s in nano size. The Sephora Collection Nano Eyeliner may be small in size and price ($5), but packs the power with this highly-pigmented product.

3. Dry shampoo to fix your ‘do.

dry shampoo

Dry shampoo powder or aerosol sprays help prolong your blowout and soak up oily roots.  Hold a few inches from the roots and do a quick spray to the oily spots (your part, front hairline). Tousle hair then finish with a brush to work in product and work out yesterday’s messy locks. I like this Pssssst! Instant Spray Shampoo. Other than the outdated logo and funky name, the actual product works great!

4. Cover roots with mascara.

If your roots are creeping in, you most likely don’t have an extra bottle of hair dye in your suit case. Use mascara as a make-shift, on-the-go solution for a quick touch up. Sorry blondes, this trick is for dark hair only.

5. Invest in multipurpose products.

Multipurpose items like a lip-&-cheek stain are practically made for traveling. After a long flight, particularly in the middle seat, you may not have gotten the beauty rest you needed. A stain adds some color to your face and keeps you from looking overly tired. This Stila Lip & Cheek Stain comes in a wand which makes more easy applications while on the go.

6. Red lip = instant glam.

A bold lip color instantly transitions your look from day to night. This Relentlessly Red Lipstick from MAC is one of my personal favorites. It’s so beautiful that you won’t need much else.
