Like my kimono? It’s from one of my favorite people. My dear friend Kristen sent it to me all the way from Hawaii. Though she and I don’t like close to each other anymore (she’s based in LA but lived a few months in Hawaii earlier this year), but we still manage to swap clothes when we do get together, though this one was meant for me to keep. It came in the mail along with a cool coral necklace she made me, a bottle of black sand, a hair product made by a friend she met while living there, and of course a thoughtful note — she’s the cutest + I absolutely LOVED the care package she sent me!! So when I wear this kimono I think of my boho babe, Kristen.

Hippie Chic Style

As you may have noticed, the item on repeat this month are my shoes. I snagged them while collabing with Shoe Carnival and I cannot tell you how many compliments I’ve received on them! When I love something I tend to wear it on repeat, hence the whole purpose behind this Dare To Wear column. So these shoes I clearly love and they also happen to go with so much. It’s insane how much I like them with nearly any outfit. They may even make a cameo in an outfit post next month 😉  so stay tuned!

Okay, now to the part you came here for. Keep scrolling for more outfit pics, style tips + shopping links.

{ Style Tips }

1. Break up double denim with a bold print. The kimono has color, print, fringe and flowiness, so the denim backdrop keeps it casual and not too busy.

2. Roll up your sleeves. I’ve got a thing for chambray. I own at least three different denim tops in various washes (and am on the market for a new on this season). They are so versatile and look great open, buttoned, layered, tucked, tied, whatever. To work best with the kimono I choose to cuff the sleeves to rest close to where the kimono sleeves hit. I used this style trick a few months ago in different double-denim look (I said I had a think for it).

3. Block heels + shorts =  elevated outfit. It depends on the shoe, but a sandal with a block heel can totally work with shorts. The only way to know if it suits you is to try.

Dare To Wear } a blog series dedicated to “dare to wear” the same thing three weeks in a row. If you’re gonna buy it, you better be able to wear it at least three ways, right? Each month a new item is featured and will be styled three ways throughout the month. Photos by Audrey Gallagher.
