Over the weekend I started holiday decorating and let me tell you, it puts you in the best mood. So do decorate, don’t put it off. And don’t feel like you have to spend a lot. Save your dollars for presents (though those too can be DIYed, ahem, Sharpie Mugs) and use what you got.

Here’s a few things I did over the weekend to deck the halls without even leaving home. These ideas pertain to trimming the tree. Mine happens to be a fake one of the slim variety and came with lights.

{Cloak With Glitter}

Glitter is gold for DIY holiday decorating. I covered floral decals that attach to shoes I don’t even own any more and bam, ornaments.

{Rework Old Jewelry}

As a vintage jewelry hoarder curator I do have some unrepairable pieces, plus I randomly save pretty things that I think may be able to turn into something. An old wreath pin missing stones becomes a wintery wreath ornament thanks to some nail polish, glitter, and a pipe cleaner for the hook. A tarnished dove necklace now hangs from one  of the higher Christmas tree branches. It’s only took some silver nail polish and shortening the chain. A star charm from a necklace and twine make another easy and unique ornament.

{Wrap It Up}

Presents under the tree instantly add the holly-jolly vibe. Since I was on a quest to fill up the bare branches and haven’t really shopped yet, I wrapped up a tiny case that earbud headphones came in and strung from the tree. (insert noise of the “That Was Easy” Button)

{String Things}

Got garland, a costume string of pearls, or even ribbon? Wrap around the tree. Or make your own. Paint popcorn with nail polish, let dry, then thread and string with care. Or even try a pasta garland. Or add string to something you’d to have for an instant ornament. I used some thread to turn my little macaroon trinket box into a Christmas decoration.
