All black everything, for those times you’re not quite sure of the dress code. That topic deserves a whole blog post, but that’s not this one. This post is about a Parisian-chic outfit I wore to the Philly Style Best of Style party. The theme, Midnight in Paris. What I wore, I wore again for a this blog photo shoot because I liked it that much and also I didn’t capture it very well at the party (blame it on the free drinks, food, live music, and the amazing time I was having).
So how did I come up with this outfit? The usual, last-minute, skinny-budget way I typically do. I waited until I should have been getting ready to hit the mall and ended up buying a top from Nordstrom and nothing else. That’s a lie. I actually bought a skirt too, but left the store with ink tag on so couldn’t wear (this happens to me all too often, everywhere). Sad face.
Happy face. I paired the black top with a black skirt I got on sale last month at JCPenney, layered four vintage necklaces, and topped it off with a little vintage hat (not pictured here, but on Instagram).
Style Tips
1. An all-black outfit can be dressed up or down. Keep it in your wardrobe arsenal.
2. Match your blacks. I actually like faded black jeans with a crisp black top, but that’s an exception. The rule, make sure the shades are the same. Many thought my outfit was a dress thanks to the matching shades.
3. Don’t get lazy on your makeup. Your face is a big part of how you look so your makeup will set the tone for the overall look, especially when wearing such a neutral outfit.
4. Make a real statement with layered jewelry. Sometimes more is more, at least for a themed fashion party.

{DARE TO WEAR} a blog series dedicated to “dare to wear” the same thing three weeks in a row. If you’re gonna buy it, you better be able to wear it at least three ways, right? Each month a new item is featured and will be styled three ways over three weeks. Photos by Audrey Gallagher.
