The last few summers more and more heads have hopped on the ombre bandwagon, including mine. The gradual color fade blends tones into each other, graduating from light to dark. A subtle ombre should mimic the the natural highlights you’d typically get from the sun and are most dramatic at hair ends, since hair is typically lighter at ends from being exposed longer to the environment.

This ‘do is so popular because it’s universally flattering since we’re simply copying/enhancing what the style Mother Nature would provide if we had all day to stay outside. It’s also low maintenance, so no monthly touchups are required because it’s a gradual fade and color was applied starting at the ends, not the roots.

Justin Bieber recently lightened the tips of his hair and his now on-again girlfriend, Selena Gomez has been rocking a subtle ombre for months and there are lots more famous people with lightened locks.

Fabulous ombre styles can be seen on the heads of Lauren Conrad,  Lea Michele, Jessica Alba, and Jared Leto … just to name a few.

Are you ready to lighten up your locks? To achieve on the cheap you’ll need a little skill, as results really depend on the application. Try Loreal’s Feria Ombre kit for $12.99 at your local drugstore and be sure to watch their How To Get Great Ombre video tutorial online before you begin.

If you’re not the DIY type, then this is one trend that I recommend seeing a professional for, as botched attempt could result in a bigger bill to get fixed that the ombre service itself.

Or take a time machine back to 1994 and use some Sun In by the pool. Just kidding. Sun In is still on the market and works like how you remember but BE CAREFUL! There are tons to negative reviews on this product so proceed with caution and don’t try if your hair is already damaged. This girl did on YouTube got awesome results so it may be worth trying.
