Today I’m in NYC for the IFBCon!! So, I enlisted my Philly FABB sis and new blog friend Jade to take over Trend Hungry for the day. She’s got great eclectic style and knows how to keep it cheap and chic. Plus she loves thrifting – love that!! Oh, and if you’re a Philly girl, like me and Jade, check out these 5 vintage hot spots I scouted out for Philly.com. Okay, without further adieu, I bring you THE Style Wallflower! – Jessie
Hello everyone! My name is Jade Barnes and I am a lifestyle public relations specialist by day & the Style Wallflower by night. I enjoy writing about celebrity style, current trends and local Philadelphia fashion events. I am very excited to share my “ball on a budget” shopping tips with the Trend Hungry Community. Now let’s get to saving.
Research your local thrift stores. I used to live in Society Hill and near adorable vintage boutiques on Fabric Row and Passyunk Ave. Two of my favorite stores included Philly AIDS Thrift and Retrospect. I was able to find gorgeous sequined tunics and silk shirts for a fraction of what the retail price would have been. Vintage finds are always my favorite!
Don’t buy only for the sale. Just because the sale is $9.99 doesn’t mean buy before you try: Zara is having a major sale right now and I must have walked into the fitting room with at least six items, but left with half of them. Trying on pieces that have slashed price tags will help you see if you REALLY need these items and if they fit you properly. I left Zara with black and white blouses appropriate for work and on trend for Spring 2013. I felt happy to be on trend and happy to have only spent $25 on three items!
Online shopping? Skip the shipping. A great way to save money is to skip the shipping for online orders. If you are lucky enough to live by a shopping district or mall don’t give into to spending the extra $20 for free shipping – just drive over and get the items you really want. Believe me I love shopping online at Forever 21 as much as the next person, but going into the store is more fun and cost effective. I try on the items I want, put back the items I do not need, and pick up some extra accessories.
My current sale picks:
- I was just chatting with Jessie about a huge Spring 2013 trend – black & white clothing. As I previously mentioned Zara is having a huge sale at the moment and I love this white sheer blouse with an embellished collar. Sheer is a wonderful transition piece for the spring and its appropriate for my to wear to the office.
- Once the winter blues are gone, I will need to switch back my “commuter” shoes from boots to sneakers when I walk across town to the office. I love these Keds, which are light and fashion friendly for the Spring. Of course I’ll slip into my work shoes once I hit the office, but these sneakers are an excellent price for my budget.
