Flannel is fabulous and ultra versatile. How’s that for a lead?  It’s fall and this season screams layers, and the one in my regular rotation among other is a plaid-flannel top, newly purchased from Target. Why flannel? Why not flannel. A number of my styling clients and friends have been asking me where to buy and how to style this autumn staple so it seemed fitting. Plus it’s one of my favorite pieces, especially for this time of year. I’m wearing one with shorts as I type. Scroll for style tips that also pertain to life.

{lifeSTYLE Tips}

1. Be comfortable. That doesn’t mean look sloppy, it means self aware and in your own skin. Pencil skirts can feel a little binding, so I paired with a graphic tee that I fell in love with at first sight (and had a minor mishap with) and added the flannel for an element of comfort and style, which made me feel and look more relaxed in this look.

2. Whip your hair back and forth. Not every setting allows for it, but this look isn’t for everywhere. A little hair flipping creates a carefree vibe and is a quick fix for a hairstyle that’s fallen flat.

3. Try it on. How do you decide if you like something together? Try. When picking shoes I initially was going to do a beige bootie, but it didn’t feel right. I’ve always liked cobalt blue and black paired, but the only way to know for sure is to try. Just try things. Try things you may not normally (layering necklaces, a wacky color or print). Get the words “I can’t” out of your fashion vocabulary and in life. You never know until you try  –cliche and true.

{Dare To Wear} a blog series dedicated to “dare to wear” the same thing three weeks in a row. If you’re gonna buy it, you better be able to wear it at least three ways, right? Each month a new item is featured and will be styled three ways over three weeks. Photos by Audrey Gallagher.

I love this look!! I’m always afraid when I wear flannel that I will look too grundy, but I will have to try out the pencil skirt with my flannel shirt :).
