Over the weekend a personal shopping client asked me where I shop. This is a question I get a lot, that, and to define my style. My answer often changes. That’s because I like to try new things. One day I want to wear rocker boots, and the next I’m sporting an Audrey Hepburn-eque topknot and winged liner at Main Line Fashion Week. I guess that’s a good characteristic to have as a stylist since it’s not always about my style, but the client.

The item of repeat this October is this maxi skirt. Not only is it super comfy, it’s also extending the life of my existing wardrobe. Whenever I’m adding to my personal-style toolkit I want to make sure the new addition will benefit the group (my current fashions) and this skirt certainly does! How do I know? Since buying it I’ve worn it at least ten times, and it’s a pretty recent purchase. Clearly, it’s a good choice for the Dare to Wear series.

{Style Tips}

Avoid looking like a potato sack by wearing the chambray open. It’ll add a layer of warmth and coverage without hiding your figure. Plus chambray has a way of making everything look a little more cool and relaxed.

Don’t be afraid of the crop top but style it with something high waisted to keep skin showing tastefully.

Keep the skirt casual by pairing with a low-heeled boot. It  makes the whole look feel less done up and more practical for your day. I wear boots like this often since they look like I put in effort, but are easy enough to wear while on my feet (styling is more mobile than you’d think).

 {DARE TO WEAR} a blog series dedicated to “dare to wear” the same thing three weeks in a row. If you’re gonna buy it, you better be able to wear it at least three ways, right? Each month a new item is featured and will be styled three ways over three weeks. Photos by Audrey Gallagher.
