{Dare to Wear} Statement Coat

Last Dare to Wear post I took high-waisted jeans out for a spin and now I’m all about them. So here’s look #2 using the same jeans, but styled a little differently. This look had a costar, my photographer’s cat. I’m honestly not a cat person, but he looked good with my outfit and was easily bribed to model.

For this look I let the coat be the focal point and kept the rest of the outfit classic. You may recognize the white shirt I’m wearing, as I did a whole Dare to Wear series on it (links below) and I was featured on InStyle mag’s Tumblr in it. Clearly, it’s quite versatile.

Spring temps are awesome/annoying, as they are always changing. A light jacket is a must for the season and this punchy, red jacket adds warmth and color. Bold jackets are awesome for stealing the show, so as long as you have some cute sunnies on, a nice jacket and your accessories are on point, you can be a slopfest underneath and no one will really notice. I’m being serious.

Style tips

Want to wear the coat as a part of your outfit? Roll the sleeves and get yourself comfy in it.

Don’t overdo it. If coat is a bold color keep the rest of the outfit tame to let the jacket really get attention.

Keep lines clean and structured. Wear a shirt with a stiff collar and pop it over the jacket collar. Now it really looks like outfit.

Showcase your shoes with a by rolling up your skinny jeans. I do this a ton, but usually because I’m so short.
