On Friday night I was glued to the TV. I sat patiently ready for the long-awaited Bruce Jenner 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer. From the first minute I was deeply moved and in tears. Bruce brought a sense of humor to it along with honesty and bravery in the ABC two-hour special.
If you haven’t watched I highly recommend you do. Bruce explains that inside he identifies as a woman and doesn’t want to live a lie anymore.
Even more moving than the interview was the reaction on social media. People took to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to show support that night with the hashtag #BruceJennerABC. And now there’s a new hashtag their using. It’s #PaintYourNailsForBruce and men & women are getting in on the action, thanks to Australian radio station KIIS 1065 that sparked the solidarity on social media.
One thing Bruce said was that he looks forward to being able to wear nail polish long enough that it will be able to chip. Since then men and women are painting their nail to show support. How awesome is that?!
I’m so glad to see the world becoming a better place and really look forward to seeing more social change in my lifetime.
This beauty challenge is far safer and cuter than the #KylieJennerChallenge, but more importantly, this one does social good and brings awareness to the transgender community.
(Bruce Jenner is currently going by the pronouns he & him, as it reflects in this blog post.)
