Time for another beauty battle! This makeup showdown is between giving your skin a dewy look verses a matte finish. The two are complete opposites, but beautiful in their own way. And the showdown begins.
A matte finish is an all around powdery, flat finish. Think vintage glamour. It does not reflect light, and usually offers a more flawless look. Often requiring several layers of foundation and power, you can run the risk of sometimes appearing to “made up”. Be sure to choose your shade carefully.
In contrast, the dewy finish carries a liquid sheen to it. Reflecting light in all the right places (cheeks and brow bones), a dewy look gives you a fresh, vibrant glow. This look is definitely the easier to achieve of the two, and can be accomplished with a tinted moisturizer and creamy shadow. Although easier, the dewy look can lack the full coverage of a matte finish.
We’re having trouble deciding which look we like best, so we’ve chosen some celebrity looks to help! Glamorous and eye-catching, Kelly took the matte look all the way and even applied it to her lips! Bright lips look best in a matte color; it won’t smear and doesn’t look as overpowering as a glossy finish would.
1. Hayden Panettiere’s skin looks natural and not overdone. Like Zoe, she took the dewy look to her lips as well. She looks freshly sun-kissed and stunning (you can too by cream shadow or cheek highlighter applied to the apples of your cheeks)!
2. Zoe Saldana looks fresh-faced and beautiful! She nails the look with dewy cheeks and a nude lip balanced out by a dramatic liner. Gorgeous!
1: Katy Perry, as usual, looks flawless! This is the matte look done right. Her airbrushed looking skin makes the perfect canvas for those bold eyes and even bolder hair!
2: Kelly Osbourne. Glamorous and eye-catching, Kelly took the matte look all the way and even applied it to her lips! Bright lips look best in a matte color; it won’t smear and doesn’t look as overpowering as a glossy finish would.
Now that we’ve shown you contenders from both sides of the ring, which look do you think is a total knockout?
